Basic Injection Molding Steps

Create The Mold – The first thing that has to take place is the mold has to be created. Being that the mold is injected with some type of material, it will need to be perfect or else the part won’t look right. Creating a mold is usually done with a CNC machine because of its precise engineering and quick turnaround time.

Fill Mold With Molten Material – Once the mold is created it is then time to fill it with desired molten material you have. Something that the operator needs to know is that the rubber injection molding process will be different than the metal injection molding process because the fill rate will differ depending on the material you are using.

Break Mold – Once the mold has been filled and the part molten hardens, then it is time that the mold is broken or opened. This part of the process has to be done very carefully so that you don’t damage the mold or lose the part because of the mold opening too fast.

Inspection – The last thing that happens once the mold is broken or opened is somebody will come and inspect the part to ensure quality. Even though the injection molding process is automatic there could still be imperfections in the parts and if that happens then the inspector needs to let the operator know. There are a lot of machine shops around the world all using similar equipment but what makes them all different is how good the inspectors are at their job.
